NCAA: A Day in the Life of a Student Athlete

I am currently a  student athlete, and I can attest that this is not an easy journey. It calls for long days. Between having practices during the day and staying up at night to get your academics done. Being a student athlete is almost like a job.

The NCAA did not emphasize this in their video which is why there is so much controversy right now. Multiple parody videos are being released now by the athletes themselves so viewers can get a better idea of what a student athlete actually does and not the view point of the NCAA.

“It’s unfortunate and embarrassing because it showed. They don’t know what the life is REALLY like, they just know what the schedule says on paper, but paper is far from the day.” – Emmnuel Acho, former Texas Longhorns linebacker

Acho’s parody video is one of the most popular ones out right now. His video exemplified everything student-athletes go through. From waking up before the sun is up, doing a workout, running to class because you’re almost late, doing another workout, eating your lunch during class, falling asleep in the library and finally getting home and laying in bed and telling your friends you cannot hangout because you have to start this ritual all over again the next day.

This is not the only criticism the NCAA has received. The biggest event in sports started this week, the men’s college basketball tournament, which resulted in a lot of controversy over teams being under/over seeded. Many believe the video supported the NCAA officials views on being clueless and depicting the true challenges student-athletes endure.
