The Jussie Smollett fiasco has come full circle as the Empire actor was indicted on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct.
These charges have came after confusion from Smollett crying that he was a victim of a homophobic and racist attack nearly a month ago. However, after investigation, and surprising uncovering, police found that it was a disturbing fabrication.
A grand jury released the new 16 counts against Smollett on Thursday with a scheduled arraignment on March 14th. These charges cover what Smollett originally told the police about his attack, as well as his follow up interview with police.
Smollett faces a potential sentence of probation to 4 years in federal prison. Most likely, he will probably arrive at a plea deal.
The fabricated story originated back in January when Smollett reported that two men assaulted him while yelling homophobic and racist slurs. After an investigation, police determined that the actor staged the attacked. Why? Because he wasn’t happy with his Empire salary.
He was charged with one count of disorderly conduct for filing a false police report. However, what is more disturbing is that Smollett actually set up and paid the two men to attack him. And for what. All to take advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career? Disgusting.
Smollett was released on bail after his first change and continued to claim he was innocent. However, FOX rightfully opted to remove Smollett’s role from the last episodes of Empire. Although FOX will not comment on the scandal, the decision was made to “avoid further disruption on set.”
