Hey Joe, No Touchy Touchy!

Joe-Biden

No touchy-touchy Joe Biden! The former United States Vice President is being accused of inappropriate behavior by several women, including former Nevada state assemblywoman, Lucy Flores.

On Friday (3/29), Lucy Flores published an article claiming that she was inappropriately touched by the former VP. She claimed that at a rally in 2014, Joe Biden smelled her hair and kissed the back of her head.  This claim by Lucy Flores comes just in time for Biden’s impending announcement to run for Democratic Presidential nomination. Which, means this allegation could cause a lot of damage to Biden’s chances.

I guess, the question I’m asking is: Is this a coincidence?

Response

On Wednesday (4/3), Joe Biden released a two-minute long video in response to these allegations and his critics. “Socials norms have begun to change, they’ve shifted. And, the boundaries of protecting personal space have been reset, and I get it,” the politician said in the video. “I hear what they’re saying. I understand it. I’ll be much more mindful. That’s my responsibility, and I’ll meet it.”

Here’s the hard truth everyone doesn’t really want to say. I mean, I get it, it’s a very touchy subject (pun definitely intended). But, what used to be fine to say and do in the past isn’t fine anymore. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s hard for some people to figure that out.

Because of campaigns like the #MeToo movement, there are now ways to show affection, empathy, and acceptance in a completely different way. It can be very hard for someone who grew up in a different time, to understand how something that may seem harmless to one person can turn into something uncomfortable for another person. Biden’s video shows he is willing to understand these allegations and how he can grow and change from this.

Opinion

To be completely honest with you, the only thing Biden’s video really lacks is a flat out apology for his behavior. He can’t deny the countless video and photo evidence of his behavior, but he can directly apologize for making someone feel uncomfortable, even if that wasn’t his intention.

Now the only question we can ask is what comes next for Joe Biden? Let us know what you think!
