Football Fans Rejoice, It’s DRAFT SEASON!

NFL-Draft

As if seeing your favorite team congregate together and start training last week was not enough for football fans, the National Football League Draft Day is happening this week. Draft day is an exciting day for every team in the league, but mainly for the teams that did not excel in the previous season. For lack of better terms, it means  they didn’t make it to playoffs.

This year, the draft is being held on Thursday, April 25th in Nashville, Tennessee. What I am most looking forward too, is that the first college player to find a new home in the NFL will be announced at 8:00 pm.

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have the number one overall pick in the league. For most of the off season, everyone thought that the Cardinals would draft Kyler Murray, a quarterback from the Oklahoma Sooners, who was also the Heisman Trophy winner. Let’s flash back to last year’s draft when Baker Mayfield, who was also from the Oklahoma Sooners, went first overall to the Cleveland Browns. Will the Sooners go two years in a row with alumni quarterbacks being drafted first overall?

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have the second overall pick in the league. Shifting away from the Kaepernick drama and injuries, the 49ers are in need of a big-time player.  Nick Bosa, a defensive end from Ohio State, could be a good fit for the team.  In their previous season, the 49ers only had 92 hits on the opposing team’s quarterbacks. Bosa recorded 32 tackles all by himself in one season.

New York Jets

The New York Jets have the third overall pick in the league. Last year, the Jets made a deal with the Indianapolis Colts to receive the third overall pick, which was their star quarterback Sam Darnold. Recently, the Jets signed Le’Veon Bell during the free agent process which was a shake-up for the team. It’s also rumored that the Jets will take Josh Allen, a Kentucky Wildcat linebacker. The 6-foot-5, 260 pound linebacker would have an easy transition to the 3-4 base front.

Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders have the fourth overall pick in the league. The Raiders not only get a top 5 draft pick, but also get two more first-round selections and a number 35 overall pick as well. If the Arizona Cardinals do not choose Kyler Murray, the Raiders will have to pick Murray up. The Raiders current quarterback, Derek Carr, may no longer be the answer for the quarterback position for Oakland.  If they choose not to go the quarterback route, they need to obtain a linebacker. A good pick would be Quinnen Williams, from The University of Alabama. Williams is an All-American player who opted out of the remaining two years of eligibility to enter the 2019 draft.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the 5th overall pick in the league. The Buccaneers have lost a lot of their key players, one being Desean Jackson who was their best player. They really need to build defensively this off season as they ranked the worst secondary team in the league last year. Montez Sweat, defensive end from Mississippi State, would be a great pick for the Buccaneers.  Recently Sweat opted out on being at the draft Thursday night due to a low-risk heart condition. Will the Buccaneers test their luck?

The Draft

Obviously these top 5 draft picks are just my “armchair quarterback” opinion, so comment below who your top 5 draft picks would be. Who’s ready for some football?!
